While Mitsubishi may be killing off the Evo, the aftermarket world is more than happy to continue improving its work on the Evolution saga, with the latest example coming from US tuner English Racing.
The crew claims it has set a new dyno world record, with their Evo managing to climb all the way up to 1,144 hp. Keep in mind we are talking about the power at the wheels here. As for the torque, this sits at over 800 lb-ft (that’s 1,085 Nm for all you reading this across the pond).
You can check out their feat in the clip below, which comes with the mandatory extreme aural experience - as the turbo spools up, this rally-bred tuner monster sounds like it wants to suck up all the air in the room.
The Evo was stretching the pistons inside its 2.2-liter block in preparation for a half-mile event that’s just around the corner. We could be talking about the Texas Invitation, which kicks off on October 2, but our money are on Shift Sector, which starts on October 24.
Here are the main modifications this Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has received:
Out favorite part of the build has to be the turbine installation. As you’ll be able to see in the video, this could easily work as a grinder, so you’ll have to watch your hands. Truth be told, this Evo does come with a warning sign, which make it all the more delicious.
We are looking forward to seeing the all-wheel drive machine putting all this power to work, all against the fierce competitors that will join the racing event. We'll return with clips from the event as soon as we get our hands on them.
