An 11-year-old boy from Cleveland is facing felony charges after stealing his mother’s car and leading police on a high-speed chase that only ended when he flipped the car over.
The boy’s identity has not been disclosed to the media because he’s a minor, but police tell NBC affiliate WKYC that this is actually the third time he’s pulled a stunt like this. Just last year, he stole his father’s Toyota Avalon and was doing 100mph on the highway before police blew 3 of the car’s tires and forced it into a ditch.

This time, he took his mother’s Dodge Durango. A police officer spotted the car outside an abandoned building and approached to investigate. That’s when the boy sped off, crossing the double line and then running several red lights. The chase saw him reach speeds of 90mph as he tried to shake off the police cruisers, until he eventually flipped the SUV over.

When asked about his motives, the boy told the cops that he was angry at his mother for taking away his PlayStation. He also said that, when he crashed, he wasn’t chased by police anymore, having shaken them off. He was simply “not paying attention,” the same media outlet notes.

The boy was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. The second time he was chased by the cops, he also managed to injure only himself. As for the reason behind that “adventure,” he said he was bored and thought it would be fun to go for a ride.

The boy is now in police custody, awaiting charges. According to reports, he suffers from hyperactivity disorder, attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder and oppositional defiant disorder. After last year’s stunt, his father blamed video games like Grand Theft Auto for his son’s behavior, while noting that he couldn’t tell the difference between right and wrong, thinking everything he did was “funny.”
