When it comes to vintage NASCAR racers, few examples of the breed leave a lasting impression as powerful as the '69 Dodge Charger Daytona and its twin, the '70 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird. Fast-forward a few decades and here's Joel Highsmith's custom 'Grizz' Superbird ripping the Texas Mile straight at 194 miles per hour.
This retro modern take on the aforementioned NASCAR racers was designed and built by a customization company located in Madison Heights, Michigan. As wicked as it gets, the Heide Performance Products creation wasn't enough for owner Joel Highsmith.

That's why this modern Superbird based on the third generation Dodge Challenger underwent further performance modifications at a small San Bernardino, California-based shop called Spankin Time Performance. Specialized in custom engine builds and supercharging kits, the head mechanic of the shop fitted this monster with a custom 408 cubic inch (6.7-liter) motor.

Thanks to the addition of a Kenne Bell 4.2-liter supercharger with 17 lbs of boost and a close-ratio NAG 1 manual gearbox from Paramount, the 'Grizz' Superbird churns out 1,000 rear-wheel horsepower.

Other notable features include the awesome Daytona/Superbird rear wing and nose with pop-up headlights, custom rear fascia design, special gloss black paint job with contrasting red decals, K&W coil over adjustable suspension, a 3-inch cat-back exhaust system with Magnaflow tips, as well as an all-aluminium power dome hood.

That's about enough jibber-jabber. Scroll down and watch the 'Grizz' crack nearly 200 miles per hour.
