There's no denying the fact that the European drag racing realm isn't nearly as spectacular as the sprinting world found in the US. And while we bring you American drag races on a daily basis, we also enjoy keeping an eye out for Old Continent brawls of the sort. Well, we've now brought along an example of the latter that will keep you on the edge of your seat, with this bringing a 2,000 horsepower confrontation.
We're dealing with the kind of rivalry that has made the headlines of the supercar arena for years - the Porsche 911 Turbo S vs. the Audi R8 V10 Plus.
However, we'd need three or four of these beasts to reach the muscle number delivered above, but we're not talking about stock machine here. Instead, each of these missiles packs a thousand ponies.
The Porscha we have here, which started out in life as a 991.1 Turbo S, has been massaged by 9ff. And with the flat-six motor of the Neunelfer being famous for its tuning-friendly nature, changing the turbos wasn't too much of a challenge.
As for the Audi, things were a bit more complicated, since this is animated by a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10. Well, a specialist called Klasen has fitted the motor with just as many turbos as the 911 packs.
Note that we're talking about an all-German confrontation, from the automotive producers and the tuners to the place where the comparo took place.
However, this wasn't a drag race per se, as each of the monsters was individually tested, with the resulting footage allowing us to compare the acceleration times.
The aim was to see which of the pumped-up supercars would get to 300 km/h (make that 186 mph) first. And since both pack all-paw hardware, putting all that power down wasn't impossible. Make no mistake, though, as the starting phase of the challenge wasn't exactly a walk in the park.
