The Porsche 911 Turbo S has a special status in the supercar realm and that's because it packs two other assets on top of its impressive go-fast numbers. We're talking about drivability and reliability, which make the Zuffenhausen machine ideal for the role of a daily driver.
Nevertheless, there are Turbo S owners out there who simply feel that the standard car is a bit... underpowered. That might sound strange, especially since the 991 incarnations of the machine can play the quarter-mile game in the mid-10s range.
Then again, when you're chasing drag strip glory, a single-digit time for the 1,320 feet sprint is something many dream about. Well, the owner of the 991.1 Porsche 911 Turbo S we're here to showcase stopped dreaming and started building.
Having been massaged by aftermarket developer ES Motor, this Neunelfer now packs around 1,000 horses, with its PDK tranny having received the attention required for such an output.
The aficionado took the thing out to play earlier this month, with the four-digit Porscha engaging in a half-mile brawl. Nevertheless, that was just the shakedown and with the car having been dialed in, the beast was recently taken to a quarter-mile event.
The Zuffenhausen toy reached Cecil County Dragway, with the thing managing to set a new 991 world record. That's because the Porsche completed the 1,320 feet sprint in 8.9 seconds at 158 mph. Fortunately, the piece of footage documenting the adventure also takes us inside the beast, so we can get a complete taste of the action.
And it seems that the daily driver side of the supercar has been maintained, as the owner reportedly drove the car two hours to the track.
Then again, the record run did leave its mark on the car, which probably means that the driver now has to take action - you'll see what we mean in the final part of the clip
