1,000 HP Cadillac Escalade-Powered Nissan 240SX Drifting in the Rain

In the drifting world, Chevy-powered Nissans aren't all that special and yet we are here to show you what happens when one of these machines steps outside the usual build pattern, using an LQ9 motor pushed to 1,000 hp.

This is Matt Field's 1997 Nissan S14.5 drift machine, doing its thing in the rain. The 240SX can be seen pulling sweet slip angles at the Sonoma Raceway's WinterJam drifting event.

With the throttle cable sticking out through the hood, the footage below gives us an interesting view of the action.

As we said, the Silvia comes with an LQ9 e engine, the kind you can find in a Cadillac Escalade, for example. Since this packs an iron block and aluminum head, making full use of its 366 ci (that's a 6-liter engine for all you reading this across the pond) displacement.

Speaking of which, the powerplant has received plenty of LS3 tuning components. It all started with a 408ci (6.55-liter) stroker kit, Weisco pistons and a custom Vortech supercharger (this is basically a belt-driven turbo). Nitrous is also present, so this V8 can allow the Formula D racer to use as much power as he pleases. In an unsurprising manner, this 240SX likes to run on E85 race fuel. As for the maximum twist, this sits at 940 lb-ft (1,274 Nm).

Since weight brings plenty of inertial moment, a diet was also used to transform the vehicle into a racecar. Some of the most important weight-saving measures included in the build have to do with the carbon fiber hood and trunk lid. Then again, you won't get to see any of these in the clip below, with the video making sure we focus on the trajectory of the vehicle.

P.S. An important part of the credit for the aural pleasures delivered by the footage goes to the Synapse-delivered wastegate.
