It doesn't take a motorcycle historian to figure out that only 100 bikes from each model will be made. This makes them not only highly sought-after, but also instant collectibles, and by the time you finished reading this, perhaps others are already putting down deposits to claw one.

Four models in BMW's 2016 range were chosen to undergo the ICONIC 100 transformation: the R1200GS, R1200GS Adventure, R1200RT and the R1200RS. Needless to say that we expected the 1200 boxers to be chosen; the flat twin IS the iconic BMW motorcycle engine in ways the in-line of the S1000RR will never be, and that's not to downplay the glorious superbike.

The two GS machines obviously hark back to the 1980's Dakar bikes, and we simply fell in love with the way the modern, aggressive lines of the current big-bore adventure motorcycles are complemented by the tricolor white-red-blue scheme.

Their seats come in a red diamond stitched design that's most likely the first thing you will notice about them. Both bikes are equipped with wire spokes and gear Shift Assist Pro, and the Adventure model also comes with black powder coated crash bars and luggage carriers. Price tags in the UK read £16,790 and £17,910, respectively (€21,750-23,200 or $24,250-25,850).

A striking color for the R1200RT Iconic

Next in line comes the R1200RT sport-tourer that is delivered in a striking livery. BMW Motorrad chose the Candy Burgundy Smoked Effect for the color scheme, a paint job inspired by the “Lava Rot” R100RT from the 1970s.

The black seat has red contrast stitching and an embossed ICONIC 100 logo. The top case is included in the package, and so are the audio system and the Dynamic Package comprising Hill Start Control, Headlight Pro, Riding Mode Pro and Daytime Riding Lights, all for £20,645 (€26,750 or $29,800) on the road.

Finally, the R1200RS Iconic comes with a Black/Silver Smoke Effect with Red/Champagne Style lines livery derived from the “Smoke Grey” 1976 R90S. Red stitching also adorns its seat, while a golden trim was chosen for the forks and the front calipers. The UK price is £14,997 (€19,430 or $21,650).

Each bike will be individually numbered, so the closer to number 1 you are, the better.
