Warren will hire some 100 new jobs to its second shift 6 speed operations, as a result of the high demand for GM's Chevrolet Equinox, Traverse, Malibu, Impala, Buick LaCrosse, Enclave, Lucerne, GMC Acadia and Terrain.
The demand for the Equinox, for instance, grew 130 percent, compared to the same period last year, while the consumer interest for the LaCrosse spiked 197 percent. After replacing the Pontiac Torrent, the GMC Terrain registered a 245 percent jump in demand.
“Increased market demand for our great vehicles is driving expansion of our production operations. Additional jobs will allow us to grow the business, while meeting increasing customer demand for our hot products,” Dave Tatman, plant manager said.
Warren produces 4 speed and 6 speed Hydra-Matic transmissions for nine GM models and currently employs 660 hourly and 120 salaried workers.
“These new jobs are great news for GM and Warren Transmission. Our employees take pride in producing high quality products that satisfy our customers. We are proud to be contributors to GM’s growth in the marketplace,” added Don Sharp, UAW Local 909 chairman.
The same high demand for some of the aforementioned vehicles made GM decide to add an additional third shift at the company’s Oshawa Plant, which assembles the Equinox, as well as increasing the output of CAMI Automotive.
