Volkswagen Group makes some of the best-selling convertibles out there, and it's not because they're more fun to drive than a Mazda MX-5. Models like the Eos, Golf Cabrio and the old A4 have been successful because of the practicality and comfort they offer, which is wrapped in the promise of build quality.
Today, we bring you the very first photos of the new A3 Convertible which should debut within a year from now. In fact, this isn't just a regular A3, it's the S3, but we'll talk more about that a bit later.

The outgoing A3 Cabrio was based on a three-door hatchback body and was thus very stubby and short. It was a decent car but couldn't compete in terms of style with the big boys, even though it demanded very Audi-like prices.

But this new A3 drop-top is built around the sedan, and so it has longer proportions and a regular boot, like the Eos or the A5 models.

Getting back to the S3 part, the model at hand is a prototype for the hottest A3 Convertible you probably going to be able to buy. It's powered by a 2-liter TFSI engine producing 300 horsepower, which is sent to all four wheels via the better-safe-than-sorry quattro system. It's also riding on a light and advanced new platform, so this is an Audi you can definitely look forward to.
