Independent Rear Suspension combines with an open front differential and a locked rear axle to give you precise handling and power to both rear wheels full time. New for 2017: dual-rate springs give you a smoother ride for all-day comfort, and there’s even a new Green color option.
This model is powered by a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, 675cc engine, placing it in the big bore displacement class (650cc class and above).
The 9.2:1 compression ratio is 8% lower than the average utility Side by Side. A higher compression ratio is desirable because it means an engine can do the same amount of work with less fuel, leading to increased efficiency and power for a given engine size; high compression ratios are indicative of high performance.
Our rock-solid system lets you choose either 2WD or 4WD, giving you the freedom to choose between lighter steering (in 2WD) and maximizing available traction (in 4WD) when you need it most.
This Pioneer features independent, double wishbone front and rear suspension. As a bonus, the system is fully-adjustable.
In both the front and rear, travel is 5.9 in. The amount of travel up front means 21% less motion than the typical midsize sport-utility Side by Side. Furthermore, the rear suspension has 21% less than the norm in this segment. Extra suspension travel is very useful for hairy off-road scenarios, at the tradeoff of slightly less taut handling.
The Pioneer 1000 puts everything we’ve learned designing off-road bikes, ATVs and side-by-sides into one extreme package. Every component in the Pioneer 1000 is designed to improve your experience. Even the seating: A contoured bench seat accommodates 3 adult passengers comfortably, and securely, with automotive-style seatbelts for all. And on the 1000-5 model, our proprietary QuickFlip seats pop up from the tilt bed, providing room to bring that 4th or 5th passenger along for the ride.
Nothing compares to this flagship model, either in the Honda lineup, or in the industry. And it all starts with a class-leading 999cc twin-cylinder engine. Add in the industry’s first and only 6-speed fully automatic Dual Clutch Transmission, and you get a blend of raw power and driving performance that delivers unmatched capability on the jobsite, and on the trails.
