The 2005 MY Gas Gas SM 450 FSE has, at its heart, a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 449cc, single cylinder powerplant, paired to a six-speed manual transmission with a chain final drive, and can reach a maximum power output of 50 horsepower and 49 Nm of torque.

This middle-class supermotard has also been fitted with a youthful, race-inspired livery, laced wheels, an under-seat mounted exhaust system, wide handlebars, a digital instrument cluster, a steel frame with an aluminium swingarm, front and rear disc brakes, a 45mm Marzocchi upside-down telescopic fork and an Ohlins monoshock in the rear with a progressive linkage.
