In 2011 Ducati started a new family of sports motorcycles called Panigale, named after the small town of Borgo Panigale. The first to arrive to the family was the Ducati 1199 Panigale introduced in 2011 at the Milan Motorcycle show. The 1199 Panigale was manufactured between 2012 and 2014.

At the time of its introduction, Ducati said that the 1199 Panigale was the world’s most powerful production motorcycle, carrying a twin-cylinder engine. Well hidden inside the frame is the powerful 1198cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine that develops 195 hp at 10,750 rpm and 132 Nm (97 lb-ft) at 9,000 rpm, sending the power to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox. The dry weight of the 1199 Panigale is 164 kg (362 lbs), and it could reach a top speed of 285 kph (177 mph).

Ducati also claimed that the 1199 Panigale had the highest power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratios of production motorcycles at the time.

The monocoque frame was made of aluminum and set the benchmark for future Panigale models. Mounted on the frame, the suspension is composed of a 50 mm Marzocchi fully adjustable upside-down fork at the front and a fully adjustable Sachs monoshock with progressive linkage at the back.

In 2022, the Ducati 1199 Panigale was for sale with prices starting from $12,900.
