BMW S 1000 R (2015-2020) Specs, Performance & Photos

The BMW S 1000 R is a naked motorcycle manufactured by BMW Motorrad since 2014. Based on the S 1000 RR, it shares the engine, gearbox, frame, and suspension with its sibling, generating 158 hp at 10,000 rpm and 112 Nm (83 lb-ft) of torque at 9,250 rpm.

In 2017 BMW released a new S 1000 R model with a slight increase in power from the 999 cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four cylinders in-line engine, putting out 165 hp at 11,000 rpm and 113 Nm (83 lb-ft) of torque at 9,250 rpm.

For the new model, BMW tried to reduce the overall weight by making a new frame structure with a lighter rear section. Also, BMW added as new optional equipment the HP forged wheels, lighter by 2.4 (4.4 lbs) kg than the previous model. In comparison with the previous model, the 2017 S 1000 R is two kg (4.4 lbs) lighter than the 2014 model, but the payload capacity was increased by two kg.

The new S 1000 R had a new exhaust, and as standard was fitted with an HP rear silencer. It also has standard ABS, traction control, and a new ABS Pro for the optional Pro riding mode, optional design wheels with red rim lines, and an instrument cluster with improved readability. The fairing size has also been reduced.

The 2017 BMW S 1000 R had new color variants, namely Racing Red non-metallic, Blackstorm metallic, Catalano Grey non-metallic, and BMW Motorsport (a combination of Lupine Blue metallic, Light White non-metallic, Racing Red non-metallic).
