APRILIA Tuono 1000 (2003-2004) Specs, Performance & Photos

In 2003, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer released the Aprilia Tuono 1000, a naked streetfighter-styled motorcycle in its second year of production. It featured the same package as the previous model without any significant modifications.

The bike debuted in 2002 and was based on the Aprilia RSV Mille. In addition, the bike packed the same engine, gearbox, frame, and several suspension components as the RSV 1000 R. It also packed electronic aids such as multi-level traction control, ABS, wheelie control, launch control, and Aprilia Quick Shift (AQS).

In the visual department, the bike had standard features, like five-spoke cast-aluminum wheels, a two-into-one exhaust system with an oversized muffler mounted on the right side, a two-piece dual seat, a small windscreen, and a front cowl with a large multi-reflector headlight unit.

Underneath its fuel tank, the 2003 Aprilia Tuono 1000 had installed a 998cc four-stroke V-twin liquid-cooled engine controlled by an electronic fuel injection system, boasting 126 hp at 9,500 rpm and 100 Nm (74 lb-ft) torque at 7,250 rpm.

All the power produced by the engine was transferred to a six-speed manual transmission that redirected the energy to the rear wheel via a final chain drive, launching the motorcycle to 253 kph (157 mph).

The braking performance was handled by two 320 mm stainless steel floating discs mounted on the front wheel squeezed by four-piston Brembo calipers and a 220 mm stainless steel disc mounted on the rear wheel tied to a dual-piston Brembo caliper.
