In 2012, the Italian motorcycle maker launched the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200, a naked machine part of the Dorsoduro series that comprised two smaller-displacement models, like the Dorsoduro 750 and Dorsoduro 900.

The Dorsoduro 1200 debuted in 2010, and despite the name, it actually shares a few components with the Dorsoduro 750 model. Otherwise, the 1200 version had more in common with the Aprilia Caponord 1200 made since 2013.

The 2012 Dorsoduro 1200 came with the same package as the previous model, featuring the same technical, visual, and performance specifications without significant changes, except for color alterations.

Visually, it packet standard fittings, such as a front cowl with a single headlight, a high-mounted front fender, a single seat, a dual exhaust system with two silencers mounted underneath the seat, and six-spoke alloy wheels.

The bike's 17-inch wheels were handled by a Brembo braking system with two 320 mm stainless steel floating discs, four-piston calipers on the front, and a 240 mm stainless steel disc with a single-piston caliper mounted on the rear.

In the performance department, the 2012 Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 had installed a 1,197cc four-stroke liquid-cooled V-twin engine underneath its 15-liter fuel tank, boasting 131 hp with maximum strength at 8,700 rpm and 115 Nm (85 lb-ft) torque at 7,200 rpm.

The power generated by the powerhouse made its way to the rear wheel through a six-speed manual gearbox and a final chain drive, launching the motorcycle to a maximum speed of 230 kph (143 mph).
