SLS AMG Roadster Facelift Caught Testing

Yesterday we showed you the first spy photos with a slightly camouflaged Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG facelift, also offering you a mea culpa for reporting earlier that the modern Gullwing will be axed in June 2014.

Elementary, the SLS AMG is pretty far from meeting its end, whether we're talking about the coupe or the roadster version which was caught hiding its facelifted details as well.

As you can see from some of the photos depicting the front end, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG facelift will most likely switch to a twin-turbocharged engine in place of the awesome 6.2-liter, normally-aspirated, M159 V8 in the current car.

Our best guess is that the following photos show an SLS AMG Roadster facelift sporting the new M177, which is a four-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 based on a bonding two M133 engines from the A, CLA and upcoming GLA 45 AMG together.

With around 600 hp in the “normal” version and a GT variant with 20-30 hp more, the facelifted SLS AMG will offer more power, more torque, probably much better performance and a lower fuel consumption and emissions. The Black Series should have around 700 hp, making it the most powerful production Mercedes-Benz in history.

Styling-wise, the SLS AMG facelift will have a different front end, with enlarged side air scoops that each seems to feed air to an intercooler, while the rear bumper will be slightly reshaped. Expect more info in the coming weeks.
