The Stuttgart car maker finally unveiled its 26th car to be featured in the upcoming Gran Turismo 6 racing game for PlayStation 3, set to go on sale on December 6.
Called the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, the concept car sports exaggerated proportions and a design language that blends retro Mercedes-Benz motifs with futuristic details.
Contrary to what we originally believed, the model will not be just a virtual concept car, although Gran Turismo 6 will be the only place where you will be able to drive one. The 1:1 scale version of the model will celebrate its world premiere today at the opening of the new Mercedes-Benz Research and Development Center in Sunnyvale, California.
Despite what you may think at first glance, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo isn't powered by angel tears but by the same gasolin-burning powerplant found in the E 63 and CLS 63 AMG S-Model versions.
This means that a twin-turbocharged V8 with a capacity of 5.5 liters, which offers no less than 585 hp and 800 Nm (590 lb ft) of torque, is hidden behind that flowing and extremely long hood.
“By virtue of its proportions and expressive appearance, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo embodies the brand's defining design philosophy of sensual purity in a unique way. The design of this concept car reflects to extreme effect the perfect symbiosis between emotional, sensuous contours and intelligently presented high tech," says Gorden Wagener, Vice President Design Daimler AG.
