After last year the two carmakers announced that Nissan will build Mercedes-Benz four-cylinder gasoline engines at their powertrain assembly in Decherd, Tennessee, it is now time for them to tie another joint production knot.
Two different but unnamed sources have confirmed for Reuters that the German car manufacturer will build the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Infiniti Q30 at an assembly near an existing Nissan plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Since the GLA was developed from the Mercedes-Benz MFA (Modular Front-wheel drive Architecture) platform and will share some of its parts with the upcoming Infiniti Q30, the report isn't so out of the ordinary.
What is a little bit odd is the fact that each manufacturer will be making products for the other one – Nissan makes Mercedes-Benz engines in the US while Mercedes-Benz will build cars for Infiniti. An official announcement will probably follow shortly, so take this info with a pinch of salt.
