Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has managed to secure a major order for the market-specific Mercedes-Benz Atron for no less than 2,884 dump trucks with the Brazilian Ministry of Agrarian Development after a call for tenders.
“We are proud that the Brazilian government continues to trust in products with the star. The high quality typical of Mercedes-Benz, the efficient fuel consumption, and the wide variety of uses of our Mercedes-Benz Atron were decisive for this purchase.” said Philipp Schiemer, President of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil and CEO for Latin America.

The close to 3,000 trucks will be delivered to several communities in rural regions of Brazil by the end of 2013 and are part of an initiative of the Brazilian government that wants to support agricultural family businesses.

With sales of almost 27,000 units from January until August of 2013, Brazil is by far the world's biggest sales market for Mercedes-Benz trucks. The two millionth Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle has rolled of the line in the São Bernardo do Campo three-pointed star assembly plant at the start of this year's summer.
