Almost one year after the introduction of the E-Class’ sixth generation came on the market in May 2023, Mercedes-AMG released the E53 version, which produced more power than customers expected.

The German in-house tuning company worked extensively to provide customers with a surprisingly good experience with the 2024 E53 model. Unlike its predecessor, it came with a larger battery pack that allowed it to run on electrons alone for about 100 km (62 miles) at speeds of up to 140 kph (87 mph). But AMG versions were not just about power and performance. They were also about styling. Unlike the rest of the range, it came with a more aggressive exterior look. In addition, the cabin also boasted a high level of luxury mixed with a healthy dose of sports-oriented details.

For instance, at the front, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG E53 featured a standard AMG-specific grille with illuminated vertical slats. It was flanked by the Matrix LED headlights. Furthermore, the front fenders were 11 mm (0.4 inches) wider than those installed on the regular E-Class W214. In addition, a lower air intake cooled the battery pack and the electronic components, while the side scoops with two horizontal flaps channeled air toward the front rotors.

From its profile, the E53 AMG was instantly distinguishable from the rest of the E-Class range. The front fenders featured fake vents with the Turbo Hybrid wording underneath them. Furthermore, the car sat on standard 19-inch light alloy wheels, with options for 20- and 21-inch sets. These let bystanders admire the massive 390 mm (15.4”) rotors with six-pot calipers. Furthermore, the AMG-specific details continued with the side sills that visually connected the front and rear fenders. Finally, at the back, the car featured a four-exhaust system neatly integrated into the rear diffuser.

Inside, customers were greeted by standard sports seats wrapped in a mix of ARTICO (man-made leather) and MICROCUT (microfiber). The E53 came fitted as standard with an AMG-specific Superscreen version that displayed the Mercedes-AMG logo in front of the side passenger. The center touchscreen was for the MBUX multimedia system, which featured specific ones dedicated to AMG vehicles besides the menus for the regular E-Class W214. There was enough room for two passengers on the rear bench seat, while a third one had to deal with the transmission tunnel that limited legroom.

But the real magic happened under the car’s skin. Under the hood was a three-liter inline-six turbocharged engine that produced 449 PS (443 hp). That was not a far departure from the previous E53 W213, which produced 435 PS (429 hp). The main difference was the electric motor that provided an additional 120 kW (163 hp) for a total output of 585 PS (577 hp). In addition, a launch-control mode named RACE START increased that value to a total of 612 PS (603 hp). That helped the car get a 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) run in 3.8 seconds. Power went in all corners via a fully variable all-wheel drive AMG Performance 4Matic+ system. Thanks to the adaptive suspension and the wider front track compared to the regular Mercedes-Benz E-Class W214, the 2024 E53 handled better around corners. In addition, it featured an all-wheel steering system.

Finally, the new era and interior technology caught up with the E 53. Interior enhancements and some subtle outside modifications made the facelift much more worthy than just a few extra colors or light-alloy wheels in the option list.

The hood now has two powerdomes, suggesting that there is a V-type engine in there. Actually, there is an inline-six unit with the same big turbocharger helped by an electric compressor to cut the turbo-lag. The total output of the powerplant can be translated into 435 hp and 520 Nm (383.5 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is the same AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G paired with the 4MATIC+ system, which allows not only a variable front/rear torque distribution but also from left to right at the rear.

Inside, the infotainment system has been upgraded from the former COMMAND to the new MBUX. It features touch-screen controls and a better connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This system works in coordination with the complex instrument cluster. The two displays for the instrument cluster and MBUX displays blend beneath a shared glass cover to form the Widescreen Cockpit.

Via the AMG menu, the driver can call up various special displays such as Engine Data, gear speed indicator, Warm-up, Set-up, G-Meter and RACETIMER. The MBUX Augmented Reality function also allows the ideal racing line of a stored race track to be displayed on the multimedia display or optional head-up display, allowing the driver to improve lap times with a virtual instructor on board.

It is unusual to see a station wagon running on a racetrack, but Mercedes-AMG is just the kind of carmaker with which you will start searching the tracks around you. It's not the 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) sprint in 4.5 seconds that will blow your mind, but the lap times. There, you can benefit from the virtual driving instructor included into the new MBUX infotainment system, which will guide you around showing the ideal racing lines, braking points, acceleration moments and G-lateral information.

The exterior look has been slightly modified. Two powerdomes have appeared on the hood, suggesting that there is a V6 underneath, but it is actually not. It is the same inline-six with a big turbocharger, a smaller electric compressor and a starter-generator based on a 48v architecture to achieve a total of 435 hp and 520 Nm (383.5 lb-ft) of torque, plus a temporary extra 22 hp and 250 Nm of torque from the starter-generator motor.

The front bumper has been slightly redesigned with an A-wing design and five vertical struts in the center section. Above it, the flat LED headlamps guard the central AMG specific black grille. With a new optional pack called Night Package, this can be darkened and increases the aggressive look of the station wagon. Sounds crazy, but this is how any sleeper-car should look like.

And, if you need more speed for the race track, there is also a Driver Package, which will allow a top speed of 270 kph (167mph) instead of the standard 250 kph (155mph).

Mercedes-AMG introduced the E 63 model in 2016, in the same year with the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213).

Ever since the first E-Class AMG was introduced in 1986, the German tuning specialist tried to make any Mercedes-Benz faster. Over time, the cooperation between the two companies intensified, and they brought new models on the market. In 2020, Mercedes-AMG introduced the facelifted version of the 2016 E 63 AMG.

The designers and the aerodynamic engineers worked together to reduce the drag coefficient and enhance car handling. A twin louver on the outer air intakes in the front apron channeled the airflow for a better cooling effect on the intercoolers and to ensure a higher downforce. On the apron, the aerodynamic engineers enhanced the lip-spoiler to ensure a laminated airflow under the car, to prevent turbulences. A small lip was placed on the trunk lid to increase the downforce over the rear side of the vehicle. Underneath the vehicle, the quad exhaust system featured rectangular exhaust tips.

AMG worked more for the car's interior. It fitted a pair of sport seats with high bolstering and integrated headrests. The Artico and Alcantara materials used for the upholstery enhanced both the look and comfort of their occupants. Another improvement was made on the dashboard, where the instrument cluster and the infotainment unit were placed behind a glass. Thus, even if there were two screens, they offered a unitary look and feel. The three double-spoke steering wheel was specific for AMG.

Under the hood, the E 63 AMG featured a 4.0-liter V8 engine. It was fed via a pair of turbochargers and sent its power in all corners through a 9-speed automatic (dual-clutch) gearbox.

Usually, the station-wagon vehicles are not taken seriously as fast cars, unless they are enhanced by special tuners, such as the AMG E 63 T-Modell.

The 2018 E 53 AMG 4MATIC+ was the replacement for the E 43 AMG 4MATIC. And the new vehicle threw everything away from the previous generation. The engine architecture, the transmission and everything else was new, developed from the ground-up. Under the hood there is a new, 3.0-liter inline six cylinder fed by a big turbocharger plus another electric auxiliary compressor. The total output is 435 hp and 520 Nm (383.5 lb-ft) of torque.

In the power delivery department, the torque is sent to the all-wheel-drive system via a new AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G Transmission. The now fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive combines optimal traction for dynamic driving with a high level of driving safety in all conditions. Some say it can make beautiful drifts too! The electronic system can transfer power between the left and the right rear wheels, not only front to rear.

The overall image of the new E 53 4MATIC+ was enhanced with round exhaust pipes and a more aggressive front bumper compared to the other E-Class variants. Bigger, 20” light-alloy wheels are offered, large enough to see-through the big, 370 mm (14.6in) disc brakes up front and 360 mm (14.2 in) discs in the rear. While the front ones are cross-drilled and vented, the rear are vented only. The AMG letters can be read on the brake calipers.

The 2017 AMG E 63 4Matic+was the station-wagon version of the fastest Mercedes-Benz E-Class ever produced. In fact, it was faster than a lot of sports cars on the market. And it was a great sleeper.

Large air-scoops on the lower bumper, a grille with two horizontal chromed lines, and a black mesh-grille would give the idea that the E 63 AMG is not the regular diesel-wagon for the whole family. It was a family vehicle, but for a family that wants to lap the Nurburgring race-track in less than 8 minutes.

The large station-wagon may give some hints regarding its performances hidden under the family-look bodywork. The side badges on the front fenders placed neatly near the extracting vents for the wheel-well and side sills are just some of its clues. The roof-spoiler in the rear might not look special since a lot of cars had such a sport-inspired detail. Also, the red calipers for the brakes and the large 19" wheels should tell a story of a fast car.

Inside the luxurious station wagon, there are few details regarding the performance hidden under the hood. A special "race-track" menu on the large infotainment system shows the time obtained by the E 63 AMG on the famous Nurburgring track, of 7m42s14". The bolstered bucket-seats upfront and the large bench in the rear made room for up to five passengers. On top of that, the huge trunk can carry a lot of stuff for a long and fast trip across the continent. With all the seats up, it offered 640 liters (22.6 cu-ft) of trunk space and up to 1820 liters (64.3 cu-ft) with the rear seats folded.

Mercedes-AMG introduced the station wagon version of the E43 at the same time as its sedan sibling in 2016, providing similar performances but with a larger trunk.

Unlike BMW, which was reluctant to offer a station wagon for the M5, the three-pointed-star brand was determined to provide such bodywork for most of its AMG-powered vehicles. Thus, in 2016, Mercedes-AMG introduced a T-Modell (station wagon) version for the E-Class. And, just like its sedan sibling, it was difficult to hide the muscles it had under the skin.

At the front, the 3D-pattern design on the grille resembled a warp speed, with the three-pointed star badge in the middle. Lower, on the bumper, the car manufacturer added the specific A-shaped grille flanked on the sides by a pair of scoops that cooled the brakes. From its profile, the 19” light-alloy wheels exposed the 360 mm (14.2”) rotors of the same size front and rear. Yet, the front ones were cross-drilled. The third side window, placed behind the C-pillars, showed a rear curved descending line similar to the one on the regular E-Class T-Modell. Finally, at the back, the quad-tips covered the twin exhaust system.

AMG installed a TFT display inside the cabin in front of the driver, replacing the analog dials used on older cars. That was continued with the infotainment that sat atop the center stack and shared the same glass panel. Unlike its sedan sibling, the T-Modell featured a rear air-suspension system that kept the car leveled regardless of the load in the trunk.

Under the hood, Mercedes-AMG installed a 401 HP bi-turbo V6 engine. It was paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox that sent the power in all corners.

At the same time as the launch of the new AMG E43 sedan, Mercedes-AMG also showed the station wagon version. Same technology inside, same number of seats but more storage room. The station wagon bodywork tries to hide the fast vehicle under the skin but it can't. At least not too much.

The front bumper comes with three big air vents that are needed to cool the engine and feed the twin-turbo V6. On the side, the 19” light-alloy wheels are exposing the 360 mm (14.2in) large brake discs both in the front and in the rear. Not to mention that the front ones are cross-drilled.

The double exhausts are covered by some fake-chromed tips, which are suggesting that there are some real tailpipes behind them.

Inside the cabin, there are not too many differences between the sedan and the station wagon. It has the same TFT display in front of the driver with a central infotainment system. The widescreen cockpit with a high-resolution, multifunction double color display can be individually configured and has its own AMG graphics.

Since it is a station wagon, Mercedes-AMG decided to upgrade the air-suspension system. On top of the one installed in the sedan, this one has another function, which allow the vehicle to keep the same ground clearance and stance, regardless of the load in the trunk.

On the performance side, the same 401 hp bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine is installed under the hood. It's paired with the same transmission and delivers similar performance, just a little bit slower. The E43 AMG 4MATIC station wagon can do a 0 to 100 kph (0-62mph) sprint in 4.7 seconds.

In 2016, Mercedes-AMG showed the most powerful V6 for the E-Class: the E 43 AMG. For this version, the german company didn't try to hide its performance under some subtle exterior changes. It went big, with a new front bumper with three big, large, air intakes to cool the engine and feed the two turbochargers. On the side, the standard high-sheen 19-inch AMG five-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in high-gloss black to give a nice view to the 360 mm (14.2in) disc brakes in the front and rear. The difference is that the front ones are cross-drilled and the rear ones are not.

The “power-department” offers 401 hp and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque and is mated to the specially tuned 9G-TRONIC gearbox with reduced shifting times. The all-wheel-drive system allows a fixed torque distribution front to rear of 31:69 percent. With all these combined, the performance is matching that of a sports car. The sprint from 0 to 100 kph (0-62mph) is achieved in 4.6 seconds.

To keep the car on the road, the AMG 43 4MATIC has a multifunction air-system suspension with specific configuration and offering three settings: Comfort, Sport and Sport-Plus.

Inside the cabin, the driver have a classic dashboard with two rounded dials in the front and a 4.5” multifunction color display. The readouts for the speedometer are going up to 280 kph (174 mph).

Large air-scoops on the lower bumper, a grille with two horizontal chromed lines, and a black mesh-grille would give the idea that the E 63 AMG is not the regular diesel car for a daily commute. A wide front apron inspired by the design of a jet wing, with flics in black and a large front splitter, impressively epitomized the power of the car.

The large vehicle may give some hints regarding its performances hidden under the elegant bodywork. The side badges on the front fenders placed neatly near the extracting vents for the wheel-well and side sills are just some of its clues.
