JAGUAR F-Type Coupe Models/Series Timeline, Specifications & Photos

The proportions of Jaguar are timeless and instantly recognisable, but the new F-Type looks even better. Evolved from its predecessor's World Car Design-winning form, the breathtaking looks of the new Jaguar F-Type are enhanced by the super-slim Pixel LED headlights which enhance the car's qualities.

Whichever model customers choose, whether is the F-Type, F-type R-Dynamic or F-Type R, one thing is sure, Jaguar maintains its assertiveness with Jaguar's Signature J daytime running lights that features a calligraphy graphic: slim along the horizontal element of the light guide, and then widening as it sweeps upwards – as if a stroke from an art brush. Running along the J is an exquisitely-detailed monogram pattern, inspired by Jaguar's heritage logo. The light graphic accentuates the car's visual width and hints at its peak performance potential. Also, a subtly enlarged grille accentuates the new Jaguar F-Type's visual presence.

Jaguar F-Type Coupe can be customised even more by choosing one of the 16 paints in the SVO Premium Palette. The fans will definitely notice inside the cabin a mondaine look with luxurious materials such as Sienna Tan Windsor Leather, Suedecloth, Alcantara, and satin-finish Noble Chrome. Lightweight slimline seats combine an ergonomically optimised form with outstanding comfort, further upgraded by heating and cooling options.

Jaguar took its liberty to change or add some modifications to the F-Type almost yearly. In 2017 it introduced the F-Type 400 Coupe.

The new version sat between the R-Dynamic and the V8 R versions, and it was priced accordingly to its power. But Jaguar already knew that they don't have to repeat the mistake not to show, somehow, that it was a particular, limited-edition model. It was available both as a coupe or a convertible.

It was difficult to spot the yellow-gray "400 Sport" badges placed discretely on the new, black front lip spoiler and the rear panel from the exterior. It was easier to notice the broader sills and the rear diffuser finished in satin gray. Apart from these, it wasn't easy to see the differences even when the car was parked, not to mention when passing by.

The interior was finished with new materials and a new steering wheel that sported the yellow "400 Sport" badge. Its designers assigned a black upholstery with yellow stitches and carbon-fiber trims. Its high-bolstered bucket-seats were race-inspired, but thanks to their thick cushions, they were not completely uncomfortable on long journeys.

The magic happens under the hood, where Jaguar engineers found a way to squeeze more power from the 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine. It was upgraded to 400 hp and paired as standard to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The F-Type 400 Sport limited edition was available for both coupe and convertible versions, with a rear or all-wheel-drive system.

Not the most practical sports coupe on the market. But who cares?

The 2017 Jaguar F-Type was all about the looks and performance. Of course, performance has its price. Some cut-off comfort and convenience, still totally worth it.

A drop-dead gorgeous coupe, the Jaguar F-Type’s design featured flowing lines and taut proportions, all wrapped up in an aggressive beautiful styling.

A strong competitor for the Audi R8, Acura NSX and others, the F-Type turned many heads, but not only for its design.

The most powerful, the F-Type SVR was fitted with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 powerplant that developed 550 hp and 502 lb.-ft of torque, while the base engine was a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 unit with 340 hp and 332 lb.-ft of torque. That doesn’t sound bad either, right?

Actually, the F-Type was available in 5 special versions: base, Premium, F-Type, F-Type S, F-Type R and SVR.

Even the base model was well loaded with 18-inch alloys, automatic xenon headlights, automatic wipers, LED running lights, heated mirrors, a tweaked suspension and a selectable sport exhaust system available for the models equipped with a manual transmission.

Other features included automatic climate control, leather and fake suede seating surfaces, an 8-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and a 12-speaker audio system.

Inside, the cabin was fitted with excellent materials and amazing craftsmanship. The JX was designed to have the driver feel truly connected to the car and the road, with front seats that almost felt like tight clothes.

Jaguar unveiled the F-Type Convertible in 2012 in London, followed by the coupe released in 2013 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, following an unusual path for a sports car.

Usually, sports cars are revealed first in their coupe shape and only after that in their open-top version. Instead, Jaguar chose to do the other way around to honor the E-Type roadster, which was one of its most famous vehicles. But the wait was worth it.

The F-Type Coupe was penned by Ian Callum, who previously worked on other Jaguar and Aston Martin vehicles. Up to the windshield, the car's shape was similar to the one found on the roadster version, but from there on, it was a different story. The curved, sloped-down cabin created a dynamic image for the car. Still, unlike the roadster, the F-Type Coupe's profile revealed an additional set of triangular windows mounted behind the B-pillars. At the back, depending on the engine, the smallest Jaguar on the market sported either two or four exhausts that peaked under the bumper.

The interior was also fitted with expensive, luxurious materials. The leather-wrapped sports seats and the aluminum accents on the door handles, steering wheel, and gear stick amplified the sporty feeling for the two occupants that could sit in the cockpit. The binocular-style instrument cluster featured displays for the onboard computer in addition to the big dials for the speedometer and tachometer.

Under the hood, the F-Type Coupe shared its engines with its roadster sibling. The top-of-the-range version was powered by a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 carried over from the Jaguar XKR, but the base version was no slouch either with its twin-turbo V6.
