Nissan's premium brand, Infiniti, moved to the market of luxury convertibles with the Q60. It featured a complicated retractable hard-top that could fit into the trunk and leave its occupants in the open air. It was an evolution of the Q6 Coupe with nice finishes and touches.

The platform was adapted from the Nissan 370Z and was longer by 50 cm (19.6”), which should lead to decent legroom for the rear passengers. That said, the rear seats were only big enough to accommodate shorter passengers. The dashboard was plain and simple, with big dials on the instrument cluster for the tachometer and speedometer.

The infotainment system had a screen on top of the dashboard and was controlled via buttons placed underneath it. It wasn't the most high-tech, but it worked well even though tt was still based on the Nissan Primera's infotainment system. The sound system was developed by Bose and had a noise cancellation system.

The 7-speed automatic gearbox was fitted as an option while the 6-speed manual was offered as standard. An interesting feature for a car that was intended to be a relaxed cruiser was the rear limited-slip differential. Since the car weighed over 1900 kg (4188 lbs) with the automatic gearbox, the performance was not great. Also, the fuel consumption was high, with a declared average value of 12.4 l/100 km (18.5 mpg-US).

The Infiniti Q60 Convertible IPL represents the upgraded version of the G37 model that has been rebranded as the Q60. The IPL stands for Infiniti Performance Line and is a statement regarding advanced racing characteristics.

Infiniti created the Q60 IPL convertible with a total focus on performance, avoiding cutting corners to reduce costs and focusing on a premium product with a proportional price tag.

The car has a 3.7-liter V6 engine that is fine-tuned to have an increased power output and to give a sense of linearity when accelerating. Compared to the standard Q60, the IPL model has a power output increased by 18 horsepower, totaling 343 horsepower.

The power is also upgraded through the exhaust modifications that were made to avoid the bottleneck effect. By choosing better materials and enlarging the diameters of the dual exhaust, there is a 30 percent reduction of pressure in the system compared to the standard Q60.

To transfer the power efficiently, the engine is paired with an electronically controlled seven-speed automatic transmission. This transmission features Downshift Rev Matching and a quick-shift Drive Sport (DS) mode. It also includes magnesium paddle shifters and Adaptive Shift Control (ASC).

For an enhanced dynamic character of the convertible, changes are made to the suspension, steering gear, and brakes, all being tuned to help the Infiniti convert all its power into momentum in various conditions.

Despite being restricted to just two body colors, Aspen Pearl and Malbec Black, the car's exterior exudes a distinctive aesthetic owing to its revamped front bumper, gracefully contoured side sills, and rounded chrome exhaust tips. Enhancing its sporty appeal, the vehicle boasts 19-inch IPL split seven-spoke wheels finished in graphite for a sleek touch.

The interior is available in two colors, Stone and the IPL-exclusive Monaco Red, which evokes the racing and premium character of the convertible. The interior leather is embroidered with the IPL logo to provide a genuinely refined look alongside the red stitching of the steering wheel and the aluminum inserts.

Besides the 13-speaker Bose Open Air Sound System, the vehicle has many features that highlight its exclusivity. Some features are headrest speakers, an air purifier, a navigation system with voice recognition, and a digital restaurant guide, all adjustable from a touchscreen.

Because the vehicle can reach considerable speeds and invites the driver to have a riskier driving style, the car is built to provide increased safety to its passengers. The convertible is standard equipped with an Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front airbags with seat belt sensors and occupant classification sensors.

To underline that the car was perfectly tuned, the Q60 IPL convertible can have a sole engine and transmission combination. This car may offer a fun drive, but it's also hard to be sold in big numbers to make a considerable profit for the company.
