The H3 was cheaper than the H2 and still offered similar looks and capabilities. Having a generous ground clearance and massive tires, the off-road capabilities were hard to beat.

The mid-size SUV was built on the Chevrolet Colorado platform and shared its 3.5-liter 5-cylinder engine that developed 220 hp.

A standard full-time four-wheel-drive system was offered.

A single trim was available with the H3 and it included skid plates, dual-zone air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power mirrors and power locks. A Off-Road Suspension package was available with a stiffer suspension, bigger off-road tires and a locking rear differentials.

Besides the great off-road capabilities, the H3 could have also been a comfortable vehicle with the Luxury package that added leather upholstery, heated front seats and an upgraded audio system.

Safety-wise, the H3 featured antilock disc brakes, traction control and OnStar communications, as well as optional full-length side curtain airbags. The stability control system was offered for the H3s equipped with an automatic transmission.

The interior of the H3 was very clean, with good quality materials used throughout. The seats were comfortable and supportive. Legroom and headroom were good for the rear seat passengers.

The load area was not exceptional compared to other SUVs in the class, however, it offered easy access with the side-hinged trunk lid.
