Such a brand new model is the CT4, a compact executive 4-door sedan viewed by the carmaker as an integral part of the “realignment of its sedan portfolio.“

Because it is meant as a magnet for the “youthful buyers in the luxury market,” the CT4 was unveiled in September 2019 through a very comprehensive and novel social media campaign.

1Exterior design & features

From a design standpoint, the CT4 is your typical Cadillac sedan. Built around a rear-wheel-drive architecture, the car shows the brand’s usual imposing stance, enhanced by the long dash-to-front-axle proportions.

Seen from the front, the CT4 is not very different than another model shown this year by Cadillac, the CT5. The two cars share the same general lines when it comes to the grille, the arrangement of the LED lights and even the design of the hood.

Depending on the CT4 trim though, the front grille will be different. The Luxury and Premium Luxury models, for instance, will sport hot foil-stamping on the grille elements, while the Sport and V-Series models come with darker accents.

Further elements, including fascias, rocker extensions, rear spoiler, and performance design wheels will also set the trim levels apart from one another and give the target customers a wide range of appearances to choose from.

The 2020 Cadillac CT4 is offered in 11 exterior colors.

2Interior design, features
and passenger space

The interior of the CT4 brings all the refinements and materials of the Cadillac range within reach of the target customer group. But despite the luxurious interior being made with tons of leather and even metal here and there, there are no breathtaking evolutions in design.

But, at least, Cadillac promises there are eight distinct interior colors, materials and trim options to be used and give the interior that extra touch of individuality, meaning it might just capture the imagination of the young buyer.

3Gadgets

The driver-centric cockpit of the car is built around the digital instrument cluster and the 8-inch touchscreen fitted in the center of the console. Running GM’s newest digital platform, the car’s infotainment system can receive over-the-air updates.

The CT4 allows to be unlocked and started without a key, it uses an HD rearview camera to display images whenever in reverse and soon it is powered by the Super Cruise technology, the “world’s first true hands-free driver assistance feature,” as GM calls it.

4Performance

The Cadillac CT4 is powered by a choice of two engines that come in three power configurations, depending on the trim level. Both are linked to automatic transmissions and an all-wheel drive system.

The entry-level is the 2.0-liter turbo that develops 237 hp and 350 Nm of torque. It works in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The larger engine has a displacement of 2.7-liters and is available with different outputs on the Premium Luxury and V-Series models. On the former, it develops 309 hp and 472 Nm of torque, while on the latter the numbers are 325 hp and 515 Nm of torque. The engine of the CT4-V is controlled via a. segment-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission.

There are five drive modes available on the CT4, namely Tour, Sport, Snow/Ice, Track, and the new My Mode and V Mode. Each changes the calibrations of certain of the car’s systems so that they provide different performances.

5Safety

The most significant and more important safety innovation going into the CT4 is the Super Cruise system. We’re talking about a hands-free driver assistance system that can be used only in certain conditions, but drastically improves the driving experience.

Super Cruise works only on limited-access freeways that are separated from opposing traffic and have already been mapped by GM. It takes over steering and helps keep the car in its lane and at the set speed, but also monitors the driver’s attention levels.

At any time Super Cruise can be overridden by moving the steering wheel, applying the brakes or accelerating.

6Conclusion

Cadillac’s newest luxury sedan becomes available for order by the end of 2019. It is assembled at the Lansing Grand River facility in Michigan.
