Following the launch of the Mk3 3-door MINI Cooper Hardtop that British brand started testing a 5-door version that will soon be revealed, possibly even at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new car is aiming at a different demographic, wanting to offer more practicality to people interested in the MINI brand. For quite a while now, prototypes have been testing in severe weather in Sweden and our spy photographers caught them on film.
This particular prototype was seen wearing some huge reflectors on the roof, their purpose unknown for now. However, we also noticed that this is the S version, judging by the hood scoop, front bumper and rear diffuser.
That means it’s using the first ever 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine fitted on a MINI that makes 192 HP and up to 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. On the 3-door version, it will send the car up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.7 seconds. With 2 extra doors it will probably be a bit slower.
