Launched back in 2007, the Clubman was the first variation from the classic Hatch that had more than 3 doors. Sure, the extra door on the right side was somehow an innovation but experience proved that it wasn’t all that good and that issues would emerge more often than not.

With the new model, MINI seems to go full size, adding another door on the left side of the car, making the Clubman symmetric. Both rear doors will now have front hinges, like any conventional car. Whilst this will take away some of the coolness factor, it will make the car a lot more practical.

As for the tailgate, judging by the looks of our spy photos, it seems like it will keep the same design, with side-opening doors, another MINI trademark.

Engines will be shared with the rest of the new line-up, including 1.5-liter petrol and diesel variants as well as 2-liter units for Cooper S and JCW models.
