Some spyshots taken a while ago show a bigger, longer X5. It might be the rumored X5L, but that isn't necessarily so. BMW announced that the new F15 X5 will be bigger, in order to make a difference between it and the new X3, which has grown a bit.
BMW also intends to cut weight on the new X5 in order to keep the fuel consumption under control. The possible ways that could be achieved might be through an aluminum chassis and some composite plastic for the body.

As for the power trains, we think they will remain the same as today's options. The same V8s and 6-cylinder units will be used and maybe a four cylinder turbo engine, similar to the ones on the F10 5 Series.

One thing that BMW has confirmed is the new active safety systems, that Herbert Diess talked about in an interview last week. Lastly, the new F15 will also have improved passive safety features like a pop-up hood to cushion pedestrians against blows, and possibly even a pedestrian airbag.
