Poor timing seems to be what happened with the Quandt family's donation for Angela Merkel, nothing more, but mass-media is always on the lookout for sensational stories.
And what would be more sensational than finding out that the lobby Berlin made for keeping the current targets of CO2 emissions intact until 2020 had some hidden reasons behind it?

It's true, the Quandt family (owners of 47% of the BMW Group's shares) donated EUR690,000 to the Christian Democrat Party of Germany, the one that Angela Merkel's also a part of. The donation was made on October 9, days before the European Union environment ministers backed German proposals to keep the limitation of CO2 emissions at 135 grams/km, thus allowing big manufacturers like BMW and Daimler to keep their assembly lines running, saving jobs for tens of thousands of people.

Even though some rushed to claim that the funds donated were nothing else than a bribe for Germany's Prime-Minister, the truth is that the Quandt family wanted to donate the money since January but since this was an election year, decided to hold off until after the elections.

Since Angela Merkel was reinstated on September 22, the donation had to be made after this date. Furthermore, the Quandt family has been known to donate important amounts of money for the CDU for a long time, no matter if they were in government.
