Already in its fifth generation, the 4Runner got its facelift for 2014 and the automaker has recently released the details and specs for the model.
Starting with the visuals, the 2014 Toyota 4Runner got a bolder front fascia conveying a more rugged and aggressive appearance. Changes include a muscular front grille and edgier smoked headlights for a more forceful look to match its strong body-on-frame construction. More visual details include color-keyed grille insert, sharply cut dog lamps inlays, chrome-plated grille insert and chrome front bumper for the top spec model and other bits and trims.
The 2014 4Runner will be available in three grades - value-driven RS5, top-of-the-line Limited and the dedicated off-roader Trail grade. The SR5 and Limited benefit from optional third-row seats for a capacity of up to seven passengers. Both the SR5 and Trail will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Limited will benefit from the bigger 20-inch black painted rims to add a bit of contrast. The color palette grows by four colors - Super White, Attitude Black Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic and Nautical Blue Metallic - to the standard Blizzard Pearl, Classic Silver Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Black.
All the range will be powered by the same 4-liter V6 engine producing 270 hp and 278 lb-ft (377 Nm) of torque bolted to a five-speed ECT-i automatic transmission and a transfer case. There will also be a choice between a rear wheel 4x2, part-time 4x4 or a full-time 4x4 drivetrains. Fuel economy is rated at 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway for the 4x2 model and 17 mpg city/22 mpg highway for the 4x4 versions.
Inside, both the SR5 and Trail gains standard Soft Touch door trim as well as leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob for a more premium atmosphere. The second-row passengers will benefit from more knee room, due to the sculpted front seats, a center armrest and individually 16-degree-reclinable seats. More standard features include manually controlled air conditioning, fabric-trimmed seats, eight-way power driver seat, A-TRAC traction control system, Hill-Start Assist Control, Downhill Assist Control, backup camera, Toyota Entune multimedia system with multiple connectivity as well as Toyota’s standard Star Safety System.
