My oh my, this is something I hadn't been... ahem... expecting. A sporty-looking sedan from Volvo? Are the Swedish on acid or is this because of their new Chinese owners? Nah, couldn't be, the new S60 was in development long before the Chinese were even thinking about... ahem... buying them out.
Don't take this the wrong way now. I actually like how the car looks, it's almost like a smaller... ahem... version of a Jaguar from the side. And that low-to-the-ground snout really gives it character. Fantastic job they did with the design, can't say anything... ahem... bad about it actually. And you all know how easy I can find the "ugly". Not this time though, for some reason.
No, I'm not getting soft or anything, it's just that I sincerely... ahem... like the way the new S60 looks. It has a curved roof, a swooping character line, decently-shaped wheels, etc. Not too shabby from a manufacturer which used to... ahem... draw its cars using just a ruler.
The interior doesn't look or feel too bad either. The driver oriented center console is very nice looking, while my tooshie felt more than... ahem... welcome on those decently quality seats. So, where are the things I don't like about the car?
Well, first of all, how many of those 203 horsepower are actually ponypower? Because it certainly didn't feel like a 200+ horsepower car with... ahem... a double clutch sequential transmission. I mean, OK, it's pretty fast compared to a scrawny Volvo diesel, but it certainly doesn't win too many... ahem... drag races. Not that I would even condone drag racing, but that's beside the point.
Second of all, what on Earth did they do with the Volvo practicality we all knew and some actually... ahem... loved? Only 380 liters (13.4 cubic feet) of luggage compartment? Where do they expect me to put my newly-acquired driving companions – an entire family of... ahem... domesticated Tasmanian devils?
