At last, a truly rugged off-road car from Dacia. Sure, it has a bit of a weird name and sadly I didn't feel a diesel engine under the hood after taking a few knocks at it, but if you take a look at the whole package, this car should simply have no competitors. Especially in this price range.
I mean, just think about it! It looks just like an old-school off-roader, right? Right. It is an old-school off-roader, right? Almost. It doesn't have rigid suspension all around so it can't be lifted for something more extreme, that is correct. On the other hand, the four independent wheels make sure you have the comfort and on-road safety of a modern car.
Third of all, it can be fitted with leather upholstery, how cool is that? Speaking of which, by using artificial leather you get the best of both worlds. There won't be any PETA member to hunt you down for killing a bunch of cows to dress up your car's interior, but you still have leather seats! Is that freakishly awesome or not?
To top it all, this whole package costs about a quarter of the best selling SUVs out there. So, in other words, there's a single question remaining. Why doesn't Renault or Dacia grow a pair and start selling the Duster all over the world, including the US. My whole village would be dusting their fifty year old F100s for a car like this. I kid you not!
Oh, but before they do such a thing, they might want to give it the option of an automatic transmission (even an old-school three-speed would do!) and most of all they should change the car's name. Sure, Plymouth is long dead as a brand, but I'm sure their old "Duster" model is very much alive in the hearts of its fans, be them rednecks or not.
