1991 Début in motoracing. Rides as an amateur on a 600 Honda, RC30 Honda and TZ250 Yamaha. An impressive series of 5 consecutive national titles in the AMA / CCS Race of Champions at Daytona. Also, 8 consecutive national titles in WERA / GNF meeting at Road Atlanta. Turns pro in 1991 and makes début in 250cc class in Miami (takes 2nd place).
1992 Wins the 250cc national title in front of Kenny Roberts Jr. (5 wins out of 9 rounds).
1993 Finishes 6th overall in USA Superbike, where he competes for Yamaha.
1994 Again with Yamaha, this time takes 5th overall (3 wins in the season).
1995 Début in World Superbike with Factory Yamaha. He ends the season in 11th place overall. Runner-up in Daytona 200 and 5th in Suzuka 8-Hour Race.
1996 Ranks 5th in World Superbike. Wins the Suzuka 8-Hour Race and makes the podium (3rd place) in Daytona 200.
1997 Finishes 12th overall in WSBK because of an injury (broken arm and collarbone) during Monza's Practice Session. Also, 3rd in Daytona 200.
1998 Again finishes 5th overall in WSBK, this time riding a Honda (Castrol Honda Team).
1999 Runner-up in the WSBK with Castrol Honda.
2000 WSBK Champion for the first time, taking 8 wins in the championship.
2001 Runner-up in WSBK, with only 3 wins.
2002 Best WSBK season for Colin, who takes 11 wins and 25 podiums out of 26 races in the championship. Becomes champion for the second time in 3 seasons.
2003 Makes the big step into the FIM World Championship (MotoGP class). Unfortunately, he fails to make a big impact and ranks 13th overall in his rookie season. Best result, 8th place in Valencia.
2004 A much improved performance by Colin this season, riding a Honda RC211V. He ends the season in 5th place, taking two 2nd places in Donington and Losail.
2005 Moves to Gauloises Factory Yamaha with former partner Valentino Rossi. The American improves his performances as compared to the previous season and finishes 4th overall.
2006 Pretty disappointing season for Colin, who finishes 7th overall in the MotoGP class. Still, one good news is that Yamaha confirms Edwards for the next season.
2007 Another poor year for Edwards, who barely makes the Top 10 at the end of the season (9th place). Highlights a 2nd place at Donington Park and only makes 2 podium appearances throughout the championship (the other one - a 3rd place at Jerez). Therefore, loses his racing spot with Fiat Yamaha Team (being replaced by 2-time 250cc champion Jorge Lorenzo) and is assigned to ride for Yamaha's 2nd team (Tech 3) for the upcoming season.
2008 Boosts his performances inside the MotoGP once he is 'relegated' to Yamaha's second team, Tech 3. Finishes the season as the 7th best rider in the series, highlighting 2 podiums appearances (both in 3rd place) at Le Mans and Assen. Scores 144 points overall and manages six Top 5 finishes throughout 2008. Second best private driver in MotoGP, after Andrea Dovizioso.
