The Doctor was the first rider to dominate the practice session as he set an early 1m50.573s. Casey Stoner couldn't wait too long and joined the testing crew with a 0.001 seconds time behind the Italian. However, in the next laps he managed to beat Rossi by 0.048. Still, the star of the show was Jorge Lorenzo who set a first time of 1m50.442s at halfway of the testing session, despite Valentino Rossi's improved time of 1m50.065s. Lorenzo continued to run high on the Mugello circuit and beat his team-mate by 0.195s.
