The to rememorate the first true rollercoaster ride in your life, the one that redefined your childhood and you'll get a pretty good idea of how a descent on Jebel Hafeet feels. There's one slight difference though.

Erase the safety of the mountain rousse’s automated system. Here it all depends on your control. And the brakes, of course.

The massive carbon ceramics of the Ferrari FF quickly get to their operating temperature here. Once you’ve reached this point, you’ll notice the generous pedal travel. The first half is dedicated to adding grip on the front axle, while for the actual braking you’ll have to dive into the second half, where the massive stopping power arrives.

Blast through here in a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and you’ll feel the brakes fading. This asphalt offers a lot of pleasure, but it certainly mixes it with a hefty amount of pain.

The FF’s brake pedal needs to be taken pretty down low here. Not too much to go until the floor. Despite this, that sharp hairpin is still coming towards us in a stubborn manner. Meeting the bends you’ve just gone up through but being in this flashing descend state feels like a brainstorming session with yourself. You can sit there and observe how you adapt to the new rules of the game - you’d better, or else you’ll end up adding another one of those terrible skid marks on the side barriers.

As you blitz your way from one corner to another, you feel that this is the real endurance test for the car. Each and every part of it is pushed to the limit. A descend on Jebel Hafeet is like a super-mirror, it highlights the best and the worst in your vehicle.

More than ever we have full appreciation for the cyclists that take on this mountain to train. We’re sweating in here, it feels as if our hearts are now two extra cylinders under the hood. We don’t want to know the details of their physical treat...

As we return to the tighter area that leads to Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road’s end, the Ferrari FF feels staggeringly quick, without a doubt. It’s got plenty of confidence, but it seems to lack the ultimate poise of the 458, at least in terms of sensations.

Think of Jebel Hafeet Road rather as a very twisty highway with a pretty noticeable average incline (eight percent) rather than as a mountain road. We’re going through one of our favorite series of bends now, a rapid succession of mid-harshness twists. Here’s where a 458 would give you a feeling of unrest though its rear axle fidgeting. In the FF, things run much more smoothly. Accommodation details aside, each has its own set of assets to offer.

By the way, here’s where we were thrilled by the McLaren MP4-12C’s clean, yet lighting-fast approach. It was actually more of a fiery experience, as the V8 spat flames.This section also made the Porsche 911’s balance shine, but insist and the German will bite.

We’re slowing down gradually, cooling off together with the car. There’s no parking at the base of the mountain, so we’re forced to drive a bit until we get to pull over and watch the giant from it’s base.
