Yes! This Dog Is Actually Driving a Car

We’ve seen those prank videos on Youtube before, showing dogs behind the steering wheel or even the same scene in some action movie before but up until now we knew they weren’t for real.

Not anymore though, as the guys over at SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) New Zealand put together a video in which a smart dog is actually driving a car. No, this time he really is!

The whole purpose of this exercise was to prove that abandoned dogs are just as smart as pure bred ones. In some cases, they can be even smarter. Therefore, somehow they got this crazy idea that if they showed up online with a dog behind the wheel of the car, actually doing the driving, they’d convince more people to adopt instead of buying.

In this endeavor they got together with MINI and adapted a Countryman to a dog’s needs, fitting it with a new starter button, new acceleration and brake pedals. Of course, a speed restriction on the car also had to be enforced, to make sure nothing gets out of hand.

The whole operation couldn’t’ve been possible without the help of a handler that is seen running and cheering the dog on throughout the video but that matters less. The point is, one way or another, this dog is actually driving and that’s simply amazing!
