Yamaha YZF-R1M Order Books Open Next Month

Yamaha recently announced some color changes for a large part of its 2017 range. But along with that, there’s a new batch of limited-production YZF-R1M flagship sportbikes on the way, and you will be able to apply for one online next month.

The application website opens up on Tuesday, October 11, which is just about two weeks from now so make sure you set yourself a reminder. The site will ask you to complete a reservation form, and then all it’s left is wait.

However, simply completing a form doesn’t guarantee you’ll get your hands on an R1M, as Yamaha says its selection phase is developed to make sure the limited number of their flagship sportbikes will reach experienced riders, privateer racers, and individual race teams.

If you end up on the final list and purchase your very own R1M track beast, you will be automatically invited to take part in the Yamaha Racing Experience. The two-day track event will take you to various European racing circuits where you’ll be instructed to set up your beast and make the most out of it.

The YZF-R1M racing motorcycle is a special version of the street R1, coming with higher factory specifications to perform better on track. Despite its size, the whole bike weighs 180 kg (397 lb) dry, which is right about the same as your average 650cc street naked.

Moreover, the 998cc crossplane 4-cylinder engine has been tuned to develop 200 HP. Other features include an Ohlins Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS), a communication control unit with wireless remapping, carbon fiber bodywork, 6-axis IMU with Gyro/G sensors for 3D motion data, Banking sensitive Traction Control/Slide Control, Lift Control/Launch Control/Slide Control, Banking sensitive ABS as well as a Unified Brake System and a magnesium rear frame.
