The Indian government has given Yamaha permission to build a new factory in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, in Chennai. Yamaha already have a factory in India, near New Delhi, and its production, combined with the new Chennai plant, is expected to reach 2.8 million units by 2018.
The new factory is set to open in 2014, with an expected capacity of around 1.8 million vehicles by 2018, and its main focus will be manufacturing parts and assembling scooters, while the New Delhi plant will produce YZF-R15 and the FZ-16, with its current capacity of 600,000 set to increase to 1 million.

The new factory is being built in an effort to keep up with growing demand, expected to reach 25 million units by the year 2018, and Yamaha want to capitalize on that.
