Yamaha is about to expand the MT range with at least a new model, the most recent teaser from the House of Iwata announces. We're already numb from the lackluster info a lot of manufacturers got us used to this fall, so we're no longer bitching about the fact that it doesn't offer ANY hint.
Frankly, we hate this bad habit that seems to be so popular among motorcycle manufacturers this year, and we are speaking about the teasers that lack ANY usable information. Yamaha's most recent one had us at the "Ray of Darkness" thing, but as the video reached the end, it only left us frustrated and, in a way, resigned to how things roll in the industry this fall.

The text accompanying the new MT teaser is, however, full of big words and in pretty high spirits. Yamaha's short description reads, "A big bang is imminent. And from it will emerge an explosive new breed of dark energy that is destined to reshape the MT world. Inspired by the dynamic forces coming out of the Dark Side of Japan, this forceful new creation redefines torque emotion. Nothing can prepare you for the changes that are about to happen. MT will never stand still."

Is it the three-wheeler or a three-cylinder naked machine in the liter-class?

Yamaha will unveil the new machines next Monday in Milan, so we're still left with one week of uncertainty and suppositions. Everybody seems to be good at playing the guessing game, especially in the absence of any hints, so here's our two cents.

The first supposition, albeit a wild one, is that the MWT-9 three-wheeled machine is more on the production side than on the prototype side, and Yamaha might have it in the dealerships this spring.

Another possibility with fair chances of hitting the bullseye sees a new naked machine added to the MT family, but one derived from the superbikes.

That might be a naked R1 if you wish, trimmed according to the MT family guidelines and packing at least 150 horsepower, a 4-cylinder engine plus, semi-active suspensions and a lot of other electronic enhancements the recent years brought.

A sport-adventure, R1-derived machine is also possible, going shoulder to shoulder with the BMW S1000XR, the new Multistrada, and similar machines. Don't be afraid to voice your guess, the moment of truth is still one week ahead.
