WRC Scrap "Super Rally System" for 2010

As Formula One, the World Rally Championship will also undergo several changes for the upcoming season. Apart from announcing the new official calendar for 2010 and postponing the introduction of 1600cc engines until 2011, the FIA also proceeded to scrapping the “superally” system from next year's regulations.{AD}

According to the controversial system, a driver who had failed to finish a stage in either of the first two days of a rally was allowed to return to action with a time penalty for the missed stages. From 2010 onwards, however, this will no longer happen, as only the drivers who will complete every stage of the rally will be included in the overall classification.

In addition, FIA's new sporting regulations reveal a new point bonus for the fastest crew during a completed day of the rally. The drivers are likely to work harder for a WRC win in 2010, as the FIA decided to lift the maximum length of a rally from 350 km to 500 km.

The current system of 'superally' will be replaced. As a consequence, only competitors who have completed each stage of the rally will appear in the final classification,” said the FIA statement yesterday.

Bonus points from each day will replace existing time penalties for missed stages, and will be in addition to the final classification points. In recognition of the new points scoring system, a daily and overall classification will be drawn up at the end of each day of competition,” added the press release.
