Now, that’s something really interesting: seeing a motorcycle or scooter manufacturer coming up with a truly intriguing line-up of branded gadgets which are currently missing altogether. How about a Vespa Camera like the one Rotimi Solola and Cait Miklasz designed?
Some motorcycle manufacturer are also enjoying hefty sums of money pouring in from selling a lot of things which are not exactly related to their machines, but to the mojo the brand manages to endow it’s badge with. Namely, casual clothing, all sorts of household objects and gadgets with more or less functionality in a person’s daily life, they’re all branded and sold with a nifty margin to customers, fans and enthusiasts.

Still, a functional camera oozing the classic retro Vespa styling accents is only one trillion times more thrilling than an overpriced H-D coffee mug, and this goes without saying, no matter how much you like coffee. The big difference is that pretty much anyone can buy a regular black mug and have it printed with the logo of their fav bike.

And I’m not speaking about piracy, because it’s not the case. It’s just that one can easily brand such objects and be happy with them. And if someone thinks about saying that the H-D (or BMW, or KTM, or Ducati, for what’s worth) original mug is truly special, then I’d reply these guys are also special, but in a bad way.

However, a camera or similar gadget bears the unmistakable mark of the brand. It’s about traditional shapes and lines, the volume usage and accents, trim and detail. Even color gets to play a huge role in this affair, adding to the strong identification between the two.

Now, as cool as such an idea is, it should also pack some real-world functionality and a decent price. Even though I know that some customers would pay big money for an ordinary camera bearing the Vespa badge, in spite its mediocre performance (at best) and would still be happy. And guess what, being as happy as it gets is all that matters in the end. Hipster overflow? Maybe. A sweet concept? Definitely!
