There are quite a few Guinness records starting with “World’s fastest” and we are here to talk about the zippiest mobility scooter ever. The thing was created in Britain by a bloke named Colin Furze and, supplied with enough asphalt, can hit speeds exceeding 80 mph (129 km/h).
The scooter was stripped of its 24V electric motor, which was replaced with a two-stroke engine. We don’t have the power figure, but we can tell you that the contraption’s Guinness title was recorded when it went all the way to 70 mph (113 km/h). That was slightly less than the personal record of the scooter, but still enough for a world record.

Colin explains that there was no such category when he started the adventure and that Guinness told him that the machine would have to hit about 60 mph in order to be an interesting topic.

The man even explains that his creature can do the quarter mile in about 18s at over 60 mph and that it will outrun your average car. Oh and by the way, this is a... sleeper - there’s no visual hint that this old mobility scooter can leave your hatchback behind.

The mobility scooter is just one of Colin’s DIY creations, with the man holding four other Guinness World Records. Want an example? World’s Fastest Toilet...

The man explains that he started building things on a very tight budget and even now when his financial side is stronger, he appreciated machines done with basic tool and equipment. He says that he acquired many of his skills watching DYI videos on Youtube. Believe it or not, the man learned aluminum welding online.

Over the years, Colin’s had his fare share of unfortunate events. For instance, he blew a rear tire during the aforementioned 80 mph run. On another occasion, a workshop fire caused by a jet engine cause him to loose all the skin on his right arm. The joys of DIY...

The video below shows us the wacky mobility scooter in action. Despite not giving us a timed run, the clip does tell a nice story, including fast passes sprinkled with an agitated two-stroke soundtrack.
