Woman Drove for Months with Dead Body in Passenger Seat

We know some choices are hard to make, but this one is simply beyond our imagination. A woman from Southern California reportedly chose to drive around for several months with a mummified body in her passenger's seat instead of reporting her friend’s death to the police, so she wouldn’t be accused of something.

Specifically, the 57-year-old woman, who is a former real estate agent, met a homeless woman in a park nearby Fountain Valley sometime last year, and let her sleep in her midnight-blue 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis.

According to local media reports, the homeless woman unexpectedly died in her car 10 months ago, but she continued to drive the car with the body inside the cabin. We can’t help wondering whether the corpse also had the safety belt on or not...

Police discovered the body after her car was left blocking a driveway in Costa Mesa, California. When the law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they were struck by a strong odor and saw a leg poking out from under a blanket and some clothes. Also, the driver had placed a box of baking soda in the car to cover up the smell. Quite clever, we might say... but not enough.

The deceased woman was known to the driver only as Signe, so the police is still working on identifying her, ocregister.com reports. The corpse reportedly weighs just 30 pounds (14 kg), and so far the autopsy showed no signs of trauma. However, further investigations are to follow, including a toxicology report that could take up to six weeks.

Authorities have not determined if the driver, whose name has been withheld, will face any charges in the case.
