Winners of the Batmobile Design Competition Announced
The competition was split into two categories, for US and international designs. The US award went to Paul Denton, who created one of the meanest entries submitted into the competition, according to the organizers, while the international contest was won by Matt Gould, who envisioned a sleek, bullet-like machine.
The 2011 interpretations of the Batmobile come to complete the image of a car for a superhero that has been in the public conscience since 1939, when the Bat drove for the first time in a DC Comics work.
The most recent incarnation of the Batmobile, which appeared in the Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, represented somewhat of a departure from the sleek lines that have defined the model for decades.
Built more like a tank than a batmobile, the Tumbler can launch a Batpod, a motorcycle that is born from the front wheels and struts of the Batmobile. The Batpod was used by Batman to escape the explosion of the Tumbler, destroyed by Batman himself.
