And it is this engine that acts as a magnet for tuning companies, which like to take it one, or many steps further into the performance woods.
This is exactly what Wheelsandmore has done: the German tuner has released a modification kit for the SL65. The first set of modifications targets the supercar’s engine, which has received a handmade exhaust system that comes with special sound control valves and an ECU remap. The unit now delivers 697 hp and a maximum torque of 1,150 Nm.
“All handmade exhaust systems from wheelsandmore are coming with remotable valve flaps. In actual case they finished the endtips in serial AMG look on customers request,” stated the press release.
The tuner has also eliminated the factory electronic speed limiter. The company hasn’t released the top speed of the beast, but we can expect it to exceed the 186 mph (300 km/h) mark by a hefty value.
“Even if the top version of the SL65AMG Mercedes Benz is strong enough for most people, wheelsandmore from Germany developed a performance package to put the roadster up to the next level,” stated the press release.
The connection to the road is established via a tweaked suspension - the vehicle’s air suspension has been fitted with a “LowMaXX” electronic lowering module which can also lift the vehicle up to 45 mph (72 km/h) in order to provide more comfort. The car uses 20 -inch three-piece forged 6porz wheels that use high performance Dunlop tires (255/30 for the front axle and 305/25 for the rear one).
