More racing technology is finding it’s way into a production car, but it’s not what you think. Well, if you were thinking that the digital rear-view mirror from the Audi R18 race car is being used in the R8 e-tron, than you’re probably right.
This is an interesting piece of technology, but also a necessity, because the R8 e-tron has no rear-view mirror that can see through a solid piece of carbon fiber. The display inside the car is a 7.7-inch AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) with Samsung technology. Basically, it has everything to do with recent smartphone technology, which makes this a more efficient device than a basic LED TV.
The feed comes from a small camera located in a housing under the third light. It’s placed ideally, as high up in the car as possible. The system automatically dims the light from other cars, so you don’t have to be blinded by it.
