Japan i the birthplace not only of some of the best sportscars in the world, but also of all things strange. From tentacle monsters to companion robots, they’ve invented everything that will get you saying “what the fudge?”
At the recent Toyota Engineering Society Festival 2012, an interesting new version of the Toyobaru turned up. No it’s not a hybrid or turbocharged version, it’s a strange little concept called the Toyota 86Q.

Built for no other reason other than to be funny, the 86Q looks like a sportscar that suffers from dwarfism. In fact, the title of the story is half correct, since this is a light commercial truck called the Daihatsu Midget III.

The engineers at TES 2012 strip the old body and engine off the Midget in a well under a minute and rapidly cage it into a fake sportscar.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
