Hold my beer (I mean my morning coffee, of course) - that’s what you’ll most likely say once you see that raised butterfly door. There’s no way you can miss BMW’s plug-in hybrid sportscar on the street. And after observing it, you’d instantly need to know who owns it, which is exactly what happened to us. Well, this beautiful i8 belongs to none other than the father of West Coast tuning, Ryan Friedlinghaus.
Man, that BMW i8 is something else. Its designer, Benoit Jacob, must have been having an excellent day when everything started. Just look at those fantastic curves, those butterfly doors, head-up display, and most of its exterior. I mean, this it the first production car with laser headlights, reaching further than LED lights. Reduced vehicle weight, low drag coefficient, and a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) in the all-electric mode? Hell, yeah!

We’ve had the pleasure of hitting the road in one of these puppies, and we have to say, it was something else. Sure, there are the usual setbacks, just like with any other sportscars, but it’s a car to remember, we can tell you that much. Getting back to our unit in question, it’s safe to say we’re rather surprised.

After all, Friedlinghaus is surrounded by so many opportunities; he could opt for anything, he could create his car from ground up. Classic, fast, big, off-road, whatever the case may be, the founder and CEO of West Coast Customs shop could drive anything. This is the car he liked most, apparently.

As we were saying, the hybrid sportscar received a Protonic Blue finish, but that is far from being the only mods they have applied. As if BMW wasn’t already at it, they changed the car's design into this even more futuristic look.

Do we like it? Of course, we do. The question is, do you like it?
