KITT is short for Knight Industries Two Thousand – everybody knows that because we all grew up watching Knight Rider. The dream of one day owning a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am seems like a distant memory, especially now that the company has gone under.
When Renault released this funny commercial, portraying one of their new van models as a 21st century KITT, some people really were tripping over themselves to be offended. And why wouldn’t they? It’s French, it’s boxy and above all… it’s a Renault.
But we’ll let you in on a little secret: vans are really cool and their drivers have some interesting stories to tell. It’s also worth noting that the KITT franchise has taken a nose-dive in the past several years. A remake of the series started in 2008 and features a Ford Shelby GT500. That, to Pontiac fans, is an insult worse than a Renault.
Van Man here might not have the sparkly eyes and well defined chest hair that David Hasselhoff boasted back in the day. But he seems like a family man with good values. The fact that he has a beer belly tells us that he can hold a decent conversation about football as well.
The modern day hero is back on a mission, a mission to boost success, alone, with his ride.
