Affalterbach's biggest world debut since the SLS Black Series still wasn't enough for some of the brand's more hardcore fans, who demanded more action from their new hero. So just a couple of days after its reveal, the AMG GT was sent out like a golden arrow for its encore moment to the Circuit of AMericas track in Texas.
There, the 510 horsepower sportscar cut loose in a semi-controlled, semi-hooligan fashion, the perfect mouth-watering combination to deliver the final sales punch into the Porsche 911's exposed jawline.
Lap times? Who cares. Beyond the complicated tech features of that 4-liter biturbo engine or the complexity of its mechanical bits, this has to be a Mercedes. And for any AMG fan, driving in a huge cloud of smoke is probably more important than cornering forcers or outright speed.
With 650 Nm of torque being sent out to the rear tires, the AMG GT S has no problem breaking traction. Perhaps more important than outright output, the power-to-weight ration of 3.08 kg/hp places this model right up there with the ultimate machines and ensures control and precision.
All of us are going to miss the SLS, but its DNA lives on in a more affordable, advanced and dynamic package. The AMG GT is a car of its time, also offering average fuel consumption is 9.6-9.3 l/100km with CO2 emission of 224-216 g/km. A decade ago, you could expect the same from a regular hatchback.
