Watch R&G Crash-Testing a Brand New Honda CBR500R

Hampshire, UK-based aftermarket parts manufacturer R&G is taking bike protection quite seriously, even though sometimes, big sacrifices must be made in order to obtain premium data on what happens during a real-world crash. How big are these sacrifices, some may ask. Well, how about mauling a brand-new, 2-mile Honda CBR500R?

Now that you’ve raised an eyebrow, it’s time to let the simple fact do the talking. In order to find out which are the most vulnerable areas of a motorcycle, there is no better way than to actually crash one and combine the existing knowledge on this matter with the info on the particular model.

15 years in the business, R&G is constantly improving its products and the recent approval for use in the British Superbike and multiple AMA-sanctioned US-based events is an excellent testimony for the protection R&G’s add-ons offer.

To prove that their products are pro-class upgrades, R&G hired a professional rider and chose one of the most abrasive asphalt surfaces at hand to scrape the bike against. The pro rider simulated two low-side wipeouts, one at 15 mph and the second at a more realistic 35 mph (24 and 56 km/h), with CBR500R equipped with R&G exhaust, and engine cover protectors, as well as frame protectors.

While the rider was unhurt, the R&G protection add-on have taken quite a beating. Still, it’s better to replace these disposable parts than having to buy a new exhaust, bodywork and more. Oh, and if the crashes seem a bit hard, then you’ve probably never crashed with a motorcycle: no crash is good for you or your bike. Also, make sure you check out R&G’s extensive protection-focused and racing add-ons.
